The AMC Javelin was American Motors' answer to the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro, the kings of the pony car class. They compared favorably with the competition, featuring clean styling and powerful engines. The second generation cars like this one put on weight and featured much more dramatic styling, but continued to sell well.
